The Web Design Survey

I took the web design survey. Perhaps this is designed more for full-time web-designers. I found myself unsure whether to answer the questions as they pertained to my "real job" vs. my "side jobs". Take the web design survey at

Family - Funny Money

Family - Funny Money - We are in the Money ! Our funny family is printing funny money. Shhhhhh. Don't tell anyone. I found this on a website called Festisite.

Is Jaiku for you ?

I've subscribed to Jaiku at the recommendation of friend and co-worker Eric Farris. Its a good way to send short messages that your friends and associates and random people from the internet can keep tabs on you with. I'd say that its fun but I'm hoping I don't waste too much time on here. It has the potential to be a drain but thankfully the allure isn't that great for me. Balance is key.

Birding Info on the Open Directory Project

There are maintained lists of links on the web (see These are edited by volunteers. Google takes advantage of this so there must be something to it if it works better than their web crawler. But does it ? I found dead links on it like the old link to the Allegany Bird Club Web site. It did have the new link so why isn't the old link deleted ? It simply re-directs you to the new site anyway.

My Bird Database (online)

So I've been reading a book on PHP and MySQL to help me learn how to tweak Drupal and just to become a more well rounded Web Developer. The book is called “Web Database Applications with PHP and MySQL” by Hugh E. Williams and David Lane.

Learning HTML color codes (converting RGB to hexadecimal)

I've been trying to understand how html color codes (hex codes) work and how colors mix so I can experiment with my own color schemes more intuitively. I came across a decent article at sitepronews (Understanding HTML Color Codes) that explained a little bit about the hexadecimal part. It seems intuitve but I learned that the Hex option on the Windows Calculator can help determine the hex values.

You Suck at Web Design

Its comedy, its about the web business ... its ... its ... The You s**ck at web design Podcast. There's this guy Matthew Jordan who apparently has been in the business for awhile. He seems to have some good tips for running your own web development business and a very funny sense of humor. If you are into web development and you are ready for something different, give this one a try. Its totally entertaining. To subscribe to it in Itunes use this link ...

Teasers added to Google Personalized Pages

Well I must come off as a proponent of Google. I have to admit I like my gmail and I like my personalized page and google reader. They recently added teasers to the google personalized page and I like them too.

Here is a screen shot of one of my feeds on my google personalized page with the teaser opened up. The Allegany and Garrett Countie's Bird Club is a website that I maintain.

Get a First Life

Tired of hearing about second life. Totally not interested. Here is a satirical website poking fun at second life. Pretty cool !

Google "Click to Call"

I just discovered Google Maps' "Click to Call" feature while looking for the local UPS facility. You can enter your phone number (which they only use once to connect the call), and your phone will ring. When you pick it up, it is already dialing the number that you are contacting. The call costs you nothing (even for long distance).
